With roots in classical ballet and training across contemporary dance forms, Shamita’s work explores movement, storytelling, and cultural intersection.
PERFORMER, CREATOR, THEATRE MAKERWhile completing her BA Performing Arts at Monash University, she gravitated towards physical theatre. Shamita has trained at Stella Adler AoA Los Angeles, AAFTA, Brave Studios, and 16th Street.
Behind the scenes, Shamita's creative vision extends to writing and producing. Her award winning dance film “Twin Flame” premiered in 2024, and continues to tour the festival circuit.
Outside of acting, Shamita is a trained dancer and drag artist. She has featured in and choreographed for wildly popular Shimmery Burlesque, and is a core member of professional Bollywood company Sapphire Dance. Shamita often incorporates intercultural practices and cross disciplinary elements into her solo work, inspired by everyday experiences, music and sound, and socio- political issues she is driven by.
She is an active performer of Australia's queer cabaret and burlesque scene, and is passionate about creating high energy performances with her signature style.
