SKATING IN THE CLOUDS
/THEATRE
Skating in the Clouds, penned by Clare Mendes for Melbourne Writers Theatre and performed at Theatreworks, showcased Shamita Siva in dual roles as Toby and Being 1. Toby, the headstrong daughter of one of the leads, Summer, and Being 1, part of a comedic duo, allowed Shamita to explore a range of emotions from humor to dramatic intensity.
Preparing for the role involved learning to roller skate from scratch over a span of 2-3 months, adding a dynamic physical element to her performance.

“Vignettes performed by El Kiley and Shamita Sivabalan were delivered in a compelling, often hilarious fashion.”
"The highlight of the play was the confrontation scene between Mathers’ Summer and Sivabalan’s Toby. The passion in this scene—both its rage and its hope—is a testament to the writing and the powerful performances."
"Performers El Kiley and Shamita Sivabalan ably support the action with youthful energy, embodying various characters that reflect diverse societal responses to the climate crisis."
"An electric scene towards the end as a daughter (Shamita) confronts her mother (Katrina) about her inaction on climate change was particularly memorable."
