SHIMMERY BURLESQUE

/CABARET

Shimmery Burlesque has quickly become an iconic performance in Melbourne, paying homage to the classic burlesque style and the glamorous era of MGM and old Hollywood.

Initially, Shamita Siva did not see herself as a 'classic' burlesque performer, known more for her comedic and camp approach rather than high glamour and femininity. However, she embraced the challenge to step out of her comfort zone. Drawing on her background in jazz and ballet, Shamita was able to adapt her skills to the showgirl style, reminding herself of her capabilities in more traditional dance forms. Her participation in "Shimmery Burlesque" rekindled her appreciation for creating art for the sake of beauty and expression, without the necessity of a political message.

The experience was enriched by working alongside a diverse group of powerful women, creating a unified presence on stage. Shamita also choreographed a mainstay act titled "High Kicks," which became a highlight of the show
